Rethinking E-Commerce: 'Request Once, Get Multiple Offers'

Traditional marketplaces force buyers to search through hundreds of listings, message unresponsive sellers on social media, and manually negotiate prices.

**Baivas** was engineered to invert this friction through a **Reverse Marketplace Engine**: 1. A buyer posts a verified product request with photo references and target budget. 2. Verified local vendors in that product category receive instant push alerts. 3. Vendors compete in real-time by submitting verified price bids, delivery timelines, and warranty terms. 4. The buyer reviews competing offers and picks the best deal.

Architecture & Technical Stack

To deliver this experience across web and mobile, we built: - **Mobile Client**: React Native with Expo for cross-platform iOS and Android distribution. - **Web Portal**: Next.js with Tailwind CSS for high-volume catalog requests. - **Backend Service**: Node.js & Express with MongoDB for flexible product schema attributes. - **Real-Time Engine**: WebSocket connections broadcasting vendor offers as they arrive.

Handling Race Conditions in Vendor Bidding

When multiple vendors submit competing bids within milliseconds of a request deadline, database race conditions can create orphaned state.

We resolved this using MongoDB transactions and optimistic concurrency control: - Each product request maintains an active `offerCount` and `status` (`OPEN`, `UNDER_REVIEW`, `ACCEPTED`). - When a buyer accepts an offer, the request status atomically transitions to `LOCKED`, instantly notifying rejected bidders and initiating the escrow milestone.

What I Learned

Reverse marketplace models demand extreme clarity in the buyer-seller UI. By stripping away clutter and focusing on clear pricing, delivery commitments, and vendor badges, we saw buyer request completion rates increase significantly.
